Once Upon a Time there was a man and his wife. And they’ve had a child, which was lovely, but at the same time very demanding. So they were tired most of the time and needed entertainment which would allow them to spend a nice evening once in a while. As there was wast kingdom of Netflix nearby they’ve used it’s library to search for the good show. And they’ve found one, so they’ve thought at least. It was about this lost kingdom of magic where all characters are now miserable and there are no happy endings anymore. And it was fun at first, not the best, but good. It was maybe not very thrilling, but not boring either. Then bad queen came again, I guess it was her, and show turned up to be another American opera. With a lot of unneeded emotions and happy endings happening all the time again, where they shouldn’t be possible just yet.

From time to time I see new stuff on the web made by fans of Supernatural. Some of them are funny, some not. Some are good, others really bad. But it’s not the point. What’s important is the fact that the series has a lot of admirers. But why?

Not that it’s bad. I’ve watched two seasons and it was enjoyable. Problem is that it’s repetitive. Each episode is build around the same scheme. Ugh there is monster somewhere, ugh we’re going there. It appears that it beat us this time, but in the end we’ve beaten it. Hurray we’re heroes again! Put in between things like:

Every fan of movies knows already that sequels are usually bad. There are exceptions, but they’re just confirming the rule. There is similar situation when it comes to TV series. Some series are good for only one season. Below are some examples.

Dexter. When I’ve watched first episode I was completely stunned. There was a series which had just everything I expect from good TV. Great and original story, good acting, proper level of “believability”. Each episode was simply perfect and many ideas just shaken my mind. But then second season came and that was it. I’ve survived few episodes, really willing to give it a chance, but it was simply bad. Entire feeling was lost and series was suddenly dead to me. 9/10 for first season, 5/10 for the second, I’ve not even bothered to watch the next ones.

I’ve started to watch Newsroom after watching this video:

I was amazed. Finally there would be something smart to watch, the series which would be intellectually demanding. Not just another dinner supplement. How horribly wrong I was. First episode was alright, especially because of the above scene. But after that it was worse and worse. It’s simply just another soap opera. They’ve ditched all intellectual stuff, or in the best case made it a background, for love story between Will and MacKenzie. By the way who decided that this actress is suitable for this role? She’s so lame. If it’s not enough of romance for you, then you also have a love story between Jim and Maggie. This time though I’m not so sure who is beauty and who’s beast. Oh and don’t let me forget about Sloan played by Olivia Munn, who was once loved by all geeks. I don’t get it as she looks average at best. And her character is just ridiculous. The girl who’s maintaining business news and is supposed to be the genius, but all you get from her is constantly saying that she has diploma from there and she knows that. There is also one episode where it turns out that she speaks Japanese which supposedly should make her supper smart, but then makes mistake which wouldn’t be made by half-brained reported from community college. I simply don’t know what they’ve wanted to achieve with her. Not to mentioned that she’s mentally unstable, but it’s common for all characters in this series.

Fox started the new year with the new show, The Following. As I enjoy watching thrillers I’ve had to check it out. Especially that a lot of people on the Web recommended it. Yeah, I know, it means nothing. Anyway, I’ve got through first episode and it wasn’t bad. Nothing new, nothing brilliant, but decent. It had this typical for American television patronizing style. Characters are constantly explaining each detail of the story, so even half-brain could catch up. It’s pretty annoying to me, but OK, I can live with that.

Remember Home Improvement? Quite nice family show with Tim Allen. Nothing special, but I’ve enjoyed watching it. It was funny, sometimes educational. All family members were chosen well, so you’ve felt like it’s real thing.

Now Tim is back with Last Man Standing which is actually the same thing. Few differences, he’s now working in some outdoor store rather than being host of his own TV show, and his children are girls instead of boys (but he still has three kids). Wow, how much have they changed:) Daughters are weaker part of the show as they don’t feel so well adjusted, especially Eve. I simply hate this character, it’s shallow and this actress is plastic even compared to Kristen Stewart. I’m also missing Wilson and his good advices, sure we have Ed who is trying his best, but it’s not the same thing. Definitely the strongest part of the show is oldest daughter, grandson and son-in-law of Mike. Their constant conflicts are quite interesting and showing good spectrum of modern world problems. Yeah, it’s sounds big, but don’t expect much:) In one episode they’ve reminded me why I hate vegetarians:)

I wonder what type of boss he would be (as I live on earth for some time already, I know that not always the one who is funny man is also funny as a boss, sometimes it’s quite opposite). Would you like to work for Dwight? Well, maybe you’ll be able to see some of his crazy actions IRL:)

I was really excited when ABC launched Happy Town. I thought that at last there would be horror TV series to follow. I’ve watched first episode and it was not bad. It had mystery, some suspense, town was like from Stephen King’s books, mysterious lady was hot. What else do you need from decent horror? And then in second episode it started to collapse. Focus was set to dilemmas of main characters more than to mystery and thrill. It started to be another typical American TV series, just in creepy setting this time (and not such creepy as well). I’ve decided to give it a chance and watched third episode, but it sucked even more. So no more Happy Town for me. It could be good, they’ve made it as usual. With Heroes at least first season was cool, then they’ve ruined it. With this series they’ve killed it in second episode. Shame.

I’m watching third season of Six Feet Under now. When I’ve started watching it I’ve felt weird. It wasn’t bad, but also nothing special. I haven’t felt like spending time on this series. Then, after few episodes, I’ve started to like it. Characters are deep, enough. Stories are normal, just life of average family, but have something inside. And the way it’s displayed on the screen is magnetic. So I’ve went smoothly through two seasons, end of second one was amazing BTW. Then there is third season and I don’t really know what to think. It’s not bad, but something is wrong. Nate and Lisa, well I don’t feel it. We’ve had this idea, me and my wife, that Nate is in coma and everything is just a dream, but I don’t believe it anymore. Episode by episode it’s getting more shallow. Today I’ve seen fifth one, and finally Dwight appeared. Hope it would help. It’s good series, I’ve heard that it has great ending, so I don’t want my excitement to burn on third season. We will see.

12 episodes away, it’s time for some reflection. It’s nice to watch adventures of California motor gang. Good actors, fine described characters. Some of them deep, some of them not much. Mrs. Bundy in the role of Club Queen, very good. Jax is a little strange and the actor who is playing this role is trying too much to be tough guy. What sometimes is annoying. Does anybody remember him from Hooligans? All this put this series among my favorite ones.
