Prometheus, small disappointment (spoilers)

I saw Prometheusthe other day and I must say that it was disappointment. Don’t take me wrong, movie is good, it’s beautiful. However you can for sure save some money and go to 2D version, 3D is lame in this picture. By all means this movie was made correct, what’s not surprising as mister Scottis experienced director and for sure has no problems gaining funds. But correct is not enough in this case.

Maybe you'll save some money (ezPDF Reader)

Recently I’ve bought ezPDF Readeras I was pretty frustrated with the way Adobe Reader is navigating through PDFs. I’ve bought full version, because I’ve thought why not. It’s cool to add some notes from time to time and it’s not so much more expensive than Lite version. There is one glitch however. When I’m opening PDF which was scanned (not created from real text) in Adobe Reader and zooming it, reader is trying (and usually succeeds) to smooth the text.

Ebookpoint.pl nie taki fajny

*\* This is the first post in Polish published on this blog. It can be the last one, but if there would be any in the future it would be clearly marked by “Polish” category.

Check who you got IP from

Few days ago I’ve received email from my hosting provider (where I have my VPS, used only as proxy) that they were informed by some company (let them be anonymous this time) about copyright infringement taking place on my server. At thirst I was confused, then I’ve became shocked. As I have no HTTP or FTP server on my VPS installed, I’ve thought that it got compromised. So I’ve checked logs, folders, but found nothing.

Facebook Text Hoster is no more

Today I’ve received email from Mozilla that they’ve taken down my add-on. They did that by request from Facebook as trademark infringe claim, because my add-on had Facebook in its name. As to not let the same happen to my text hosting serviceI’ve changed its name to Text Hoster. I hope that it would be enough as linking to Facebook is really an option for my service, not the main feature.

When Wired would make the right choice?

Today I’ve read about Financial Timeslaunching their HTML5 based app(instead one for iPad only) to deliver their content. Good move as it means access for more people. But it’s not what I want to write about today. I wish Wiredwould do the same. I love this magazine, however to buy it in shop here (Europe) it costs around 12$ per issue, international subscription is better, but still it’s 75$ a year.

Motorola has lame software update process

I’m happy owner of Motorola Defy Android phone. It’s great, the best phone after IPhone I’ve ever had. I like almost everything in it, but definitely not Motorola Software Update. It’s software for updating phone’s system. I know that there is such option in phone itself, but for unknown reason it can’t connect with update server. So I’ve downloaded special software for my PC to update my phone from it. Usage is simple, launch the app, connect your phone to PC via USB, click next to check for the updates.

Firefox 4. Too soon?

Finally we have Firefox 4 here, it was delayed several times and I have a feeling that main reason that it was finally released was release of Internet Explorer 9. Why I think so? Because among many advantages new Firefox has few flaws. Let me list them here: When I’m opening a site which has Facebook applet which shows you people who liked it, Firefox is opening this applet also in new tab.

Hulu has pissed me off!

I’ve wanted to see episode of my favorite show Family Guy, so I’ve navigated to Hulu and launched it. I was presented with a message saying that if I would fill out short survey I can watch my show without ads. Nice deal, so I’ve filled all info, submitted it and started watching. But after a while I was presented with another message “There is connection problem we’re unable to stream your video”, or something like that.

Nightmare of helpdesk

Today I’ve read article by Bruce Schneier about conception of Internet Quarantines. Scott Charney from Microsoft gave an idea that computers in Internet should be quarantined if they’re infected by malicious software. This method is used by many companies when you want to connect via VPN to their networks. Bruce gave it deep and worth reading analysis so I wouldn’t rewrite what was written already. From my point of view the idea would be especially bad for one group of people, helpdesk personnel at ISP.
