I want Parnassus in my town!

When I’ve started reading The Bookstore Strikes Backin the newest AtlanticI was thinking, well this is another nerdy lady who has too much of free time and is trying to make a fuss around her. How wrong I was. Or actually how well Ann Patchettis able to tell this story. As I’m always saying, I would read manual to screw driver with flush on my face if it was written by Stephen King.

Security breach at GoGrid?

On Monday I’ve received a call from my bank with information that my credit card details were stolen by third party, so they’ve blocked it and new one would be issued within a week. I was quite surprised and even suspected a fraud at first, but guy hasn’t asked me about any personal information, so no red light. On Tuesday my mother sent me an email with attached scan of document received from GoGrid.

Do you want to work for Dwight?

I’m following Rainn Wilson(more known as Dwight Schrute) on Twitterand today I’ve read this post: I wonder what type of boss he would be (as I live on earth for some time already, I know that not always the one who is funny man is also funny as a boss, sometimes it’s quite opposite). Would you like to work for Dwight? Well, maybe you’ll be able to see some of his crazy actions IRL:)

Build your own proxy (and listen to Pandora outside USA)

I’ve always loved Pandoraradio, but now Pandora is available only to US citizens. However there is a solution, if you happen to own a VPSlocated in States (and your provider allows proxy service) then you can setup your own proxy server and enjoy listening to Pandora (and not only that) from any location. It could be also useful for Americans who gone abroad. With proxy you can also bypass your company’s firewall, so if admins are blocking some websites you’ll just access them via your proxy.

King isn't like wine

In one of my posts I’ve complaint that I feel too old for reading King. But now I’ve changed my mind. Stephen King is getting old and he is nothing like wine. I’ve recently read The Long Walk(BTW first book I’ve read on my Kindle:)) and now I’m reading Salem’s Lot, and must say that I’m amazed. These books are really good, so I’m still in mood for good horror book, but my favorite author is not writing them anymore.

I'll have a Kindle!!!

Yes, after months of reading about it. After many pros and cons being reviewed in my mind, and after claiming on this blog that I don’t want it anymore:) I’ve finally ordered it from Amazon. Of course 3G optionas I would like to have access to Internet anywhere. I must admit that it was mainly the price which made my mind, previously it was horribly expensive (as for me) and wasn’t offering all I want from such device.

Are teenagers so stupid these days?

I’ve seen trailer to Virginity Hitthe other day and must say that I’ve lost faith in humanity, again. Are teenagers really such stupid now that they’re willing to watch such stuff? For sure in High School I was watching, listening and reading a lot of bullshit, but there are limits. A movie about a guy who is about to loose his virginity, common. It’s supposed to be para-documentary, at least looks like it, but actors are so weak that one must be retarded to find it even partially true.

We're all !equal

Today I’ve found funny picture where present president of USA Barrack Obamasays (my own translation): “In the moment of such tragedy and such pain we all are Polish” Although I know what he meant, comment under the picture is still quite funny. Here is what it says: “We’re all Polish… but not all have visas” It’s old subject about Poland having big problem with US visas. I understand my nationals as US has no-visas traffic with smaller countries which sent a lot less army to help the US forces fight with terror.

Boston was Silicon Valley in the past

TechCrunch published interesting article about Boston’s Route 128 and why it lost with Silicon Valley, more here. I haven’t heard about it before. If I had then I would definitively tried to see this when I was there. It’s maybe not so surprising as MIT is there, so it’s normal that many of these bright people would want to stay there, but still. Second Silicon Valley, well how would you know:)

Kosciusko and a beer

I’ve found set of old Budweiser advertising posters and among them was this one: If you don’t know who was Kosciusko ask WikipediaWell, it’s a little shame that Polish hero was used for advertising such beer as Bud. I’m talking about American Budweiser which is not drinkable, not Czech one which is very good. America has definitively got good beers, but Bud is not one of them.
