Grumbling

What the hell Denzel?! (2 Guns)

There are few actors and directors about whom I’m able to say, “Well, this guy (sorry, no girls here) has never released a film which was bad, I’m watching new one without any review, it must be good”. One of these actors was Denzel Washington. Was, because I’ve recently seen 2 Guns. Don’t take me wrong. It’s not so bad, I’ve actually quite enjoyed it, it was entertaining. It’s just that it involves Denzel and I really expect more from him.

Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Timethere was a man and his wife. And they’ve had a child, which was lovely, but at the same time very demanding. So they were tired most of the time and needed entertainment which would allow them to spend a nice evening once in a while. As there was wast kingdom of Netflixnearby they’ve used it’s library to search for the good show. And they’ve found one, so they’ve thought at least.

I hate repetitions (Supernatural)

From time to time I see new stuff on the web made by fans of Supernatural. Some of them are funny, some not. Some are good, others really bad. But it’s not the point. What’s important is the fact that the series has a lot of admirers. But why? Not that it’s bad. I’ve watched two seasons and it was enjoyable. Problem is that it’s repetitive. Each episode is build around the same scheme.

Why Robert, why?! (Killing Season)

I don’t like judging things without knowing them, so usually I don’t rate movies or books which I haven’t seen. This time however I must make an exception. I’ve seen part of Killing Seasonrecently. Story is simple. Benjamin Ford (De Niro) is one of the executioners during the Bosnian War. One of the people who were supposed to be executed is Emil Kovac (Travolta). He survives. And yes, he wants a revenge.

Is there no alternative to Outlook?

First of all I must show off a little. I’m free again! Yeah, I’ve ditched my O365 subscription and moved to outlook.com. I’ve decided that paying 6$ for mailbox when you’re not using it for business is simply a waste. So far I’m happy, there are some things I’m missing. But there also are things which are better, like: Categories - yeah they’re working far better in free version IM - as I’ve written before Lync is not very usable if most of your contacts is not using it; IM in outlook.

Sci-fi without beautiful women (Oblivion, spoilers alert)

In the age where music videos look like porn, good looking ladies are a must have for almost any movie genre. And especially for science fiction where nerds simply have to have something to make their blood pressure go up. Other than discussing if the laser used was feasible in real world. So even in trailer promoting newest Star Trekmovie we’ve got nice looking lady in lingerie, see below. But Oblivionwants to be better than that.

For only one season

Every fan of movies knows already that sequels are usually bad. There are exceptions, but they’re just confirming the rule. There is similar situation when it comes to TV series. Some series are good for only one season. Below are some examples. Dexter. When I’ve watched first episode I was completely stunned. There was a series which had just everything I expect from good TV. Great and original story, good acting, proper level of “believability”.

If you have an hour to spare (The Call, spoiler alert)

I’ve seen several movies recently where makers obviously had no idea how to end them, but The Callis next generation. We have quite nice story. There is emergency line operator played by Halle Berrywho once makes mistake during the call and as consequence young girl dies. After such shock she can’t handle calls anymore, so she resolves to teaching. And then one day killer reappears. Of course Halle is again involved and tries to save the girl from the psychopath.

My story with Apple

My story with Apple started late with first iPhone. I was visiting States for the second time and wasn’t planning to buy this phone. I’ve went to Apple Store to buy one for my colleague who wanted it badly. After I’ve seen it in action I’ve immediately bought one for me. And as there was purchase limit back then I wasn’t able to get one for my pal after all. I’m still feeling a bit sorry about that.

Oh master, why you... are boring (Liars and Outliers)

I value Bruce Schneieras security expert. I love his blog. I like that he’s not fast to make opinion and analyzes everything thoroughly. I’ve enjoyed his book Secrets and Lies: Digital Security in a Networked World. And as he advertised his last book, Liars and Outliers: Enabling the Trust that Society Needs to Thrive, a lot, I’ve decided to give it a try. It was easier decision to me as it’s available on Safari Books Online.
